My attraction to nature is an attraction that may be a little strange for the average person to understand. What really attracts me to nature is the fact that everything in nature is free. Animals that live in the wild life are free to do what they so choose. They can choose to do this or do that, eat this or eat that, sleep here or sleep there, etc.
What fascinates me about the outdoors is anything can happen. I go outdoors and wonder about wherever I so choose, do what I want, and eat and hunt what I choose. I am very anxious and excited to get started that anything Jim Gallien said to try and talk me out of it did not phase me at all. He gave me many different reasons as to why I should not get out his car and into the wild, but I had an answer for any reason he threw at me to show him that I was not scared. I just want me and the wild, that is it. I do not want to know what time it is, the day or even where I am, none of that matters to me.
The motivations for quitting my job to journey across the country with minimal supplies and money is to be an odyssey, and to commence on a journey that would change everything. I had spent the past four years preparing to fulfill an absurd and onerous duty, which is to graduate from college. Now that I have graduated I am longer in the bindings of my parents and peers and there stifling world that consist of abstraction, security, and excess materials. I feel this is not the life cut out for me, I feel cut off from the raw throb of existence. So on this journey my motivation was to invent a new life for myself, one in which I would be able to be free and bathe in unfiltered experiences. With me creating this new life for myself I feel i should also create a new identity for myself. So from now on my name is no longer Chris McCandless, it is now Alexander Supertramp.
What is important to me about my leisure time is the fact that it is leisure time. No one ever wants to work, but they do for what reasons? The answer is the cost of living and excess and luxurious materials. This the life my parents have and want me to have but I do not need any of that. Leisure time is the best to me and I believe life itself should be leisure.
